Prior to our visit to the Louvre, FIT Assistant Professor of Fashion Design and the Chair of Fashion Department, Su Ku, will present a lecture for our group to provide context. During our visit to the Louvre, we will explore the deep connections between fashion and art. By considering the context in which fashion is presented, we gain a richer understanding of each garment and the creative decisions behind it. The presentation will focus on appreciating fashion displays as art forms that reflect culture, imagination, and craftsmanship.

Amid magnificently landscaped formal gardens, this splendid and enormous palace was built in the mid-17th century during the reign of Louis XIV – the Roi Soleil (Sun King) – to project the absolute power of the French monarchy, which was then at the height of its glory. The château has undergone relatively few alterations since its construction, though almost all the interior furnishings disappeared during the Revolution and many of the rooms were rebuilt by Louis-Philippe (r 1830–48). (Passport entrance ticket included.)
