The development and history of psychology around the world follows the industrialization of a country and Spain has experienced its ups and downs dating back to the early 1900s. The social, economic, and political climates of a country must be primed in order for psychology to prosper as a scientific discipline. In particular, the political climate of Spain has directly influenced the trajectory of psychological study, service, and research. Following the Spanish Civil War, the dictatorship of Francisco Franco from 1939 to 1975 significantly suppressed the influence of psychology as well as other parts of society in the Spanish culture. The science of psychology throughout Spain was growing before the dictatorship and growth continued at a rapid rate after it. Since the dictatorship the Spanish people have been applying the principles of psychology to everyday real-world problems and learning how doing so can have a favorable and far-reaching impact on their lives, including their mental health. This program examines "The Crossroads of Psychology and Politics in Spain." Plus, Seville is one of the most beautiful, memorable, and visited cities in all of the world!
